Box and Shadow

“I create images from the world I walk through — often shaped by what I almost missed.”

About the work

I’m Andrew Zimbel. I create fine-art photographs that explore light, shadow, and the quiet rhythms of the everyday. My work is abstract and contemporary, but it’s rooted in real places and moments — drawn from the world I walk through.

Many of my photographs are made walking beside the Humber River in Toronto — a place of shifting light and quiet detail that rewards noticing rather than chasing.

Lineage

I also manage the archive of my father, the photographer George Zimbel, whose work is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art. Like him, I believe small moments are worth paying attention to.
